Ok, so I have to look professional to go out and seek job prospects. This calls for a classic/corrective make-up look.

Well, I need feedback, has anyone experimented with new foundation colors/ types?? Which ones do you like? Why??

Finding the Right Foundation

This is a tough issue to tackle.  You need to be honest with yourself about your true color.  I will provide step-by-step directions to choosing the right foundation shade, as well as tips to aid this process.

1.  Picking a foundation:  Pick a color that is really your shade.  Be honest, don't say "I'm lighter under the light" or "I have darker places on my skin so I need a dark foundation".  The truth is, your true skin tone is the area of your checks and the bridge of your nose.  Often times, due to the environment, and stress, your face can darken in places (under eyes, sides of face).  This is not your true color!! If skin darkening is in the extreme try to purchase and use a skin toner to even out your color and enhance your natural glow.

*Buy products from the make-up counter and not off the shelf.  Shelf  products are cheaper, but you never know how that color is going to look on you until you get home.  Often the color is either too dark, or too light, nothing like the color name indicated on the package.

*Put some money into your foundation! Cheap make-up is always a great find, but NEVER put cheap foundation on your face ESPECIALLY if you have problems with oil build-up and acne.  This will just add to the problem, making it a nightmare!

*Buy oil-free foundation....avoid the NIGHTMARE!

*Remember, make-up does have expiration dates! Be aware of them, or face the consequences of bad skin:(

2. What type do I buy?:  Well, there are many types: cake, liquid, stick, cream to powder, and loose powder.  Use the kind that will fit your needs.  (Always use a wedge to apply--They are usually sold in big bags, $1 at the dollar store).
  • Use cake if you are going to perform or will be in front of people on stage or under harsh lights.  This is a heavier make-up.  Provides full coverage.
  • If you have time and love putting on your make-up, use liquid
  • A stick is what I usually use, I like the convenience of having a concealer and foundation in one!  Use for a quick full coverage.
  • Cream to powders are nice, they go on smooth like liquid, and dry silky like powder! They provide a full coverage.
  • To even your skin tone put away your wedges, and use a big brush and a loose powder. This make-up is light, easy to put on, and care-free! You'll enjoy saying, "I have to go powder my nose!"  Achieve that smooth coverage every time, can be used with other foundation types to erase oiliness and promote even skin tone throughout the day without adding on more heavier foundations.
3.Testing your foundation (at the store):  If there are no sales associates to help you, often they just don't come over to assist (happened to me too many times in Belk), perform a Streak Test to make sure you purchase the right color.
To perform a streak test:
A--  Place a streak of foundation on your cheek between your ear and your chin.
B--  Use a wedge to blend color into the skin.

     *  Blend, Blend, Blend...the key is BLENDING!!  Use your wedge and in upward motions toward your ear, swoop in an upward position.  This promotes a youthful look!!

*Lighting, Lighting, Lighting...the key is LIGHTING!! Always apply your make-up under lighting that is natural...most of the time we cannot do this, but PLEASE, have a mirror with lights on it, or make sure your bathroom lights are 60watts.  If not, or even if they are in a bad angle from you and the mirror, use 1 or 2 desk lamps to create the effect.  If you don't, you won't really know how the color looks on you until your coworkers are staring at you funny in the break room!!

3. Try and Try Again:  Sometimes you get it right the first time, other times you don't. You'll destroy many helpless wedges in your quest for the right shade!! It's worth it!! Don't be afraid to try different brands!   That's how you learn which works for you.  You should also know what foundation color you are in cake, liquid, stick, cream to powder, and loose powder (which ever ones you feel you may use).

Have Fun. This is only the beginning of the wonderful world of make-up:)

Start with your face clean.  Most people complement my skin tone and complexion, but I still have dark spots and some scars I need to cover up.

I use the foundation stick from Interface.

The color is called "Teak", whatever that means...the name doesn't really help with the selection process.

This is how the color looks, but it's still pretty hard to tell how it will appear blended into your skin.

Put a streak of foundation on your check between your chin and ear.

Use your wedge to blend and lift foundation in upward swoops to promote a youthful look.

All blended!! Can you tell??
